Both ¥ and 円 can be used to denote Japanese yen. However, they are used differently. For example, 100 JPY can be expressed as
- ¥100
- 100 円
Since 円 is technically a word, not a symbol, it is written after the number. Just like in English we say “100 dollars”, not “dollar 100”. Thus, “円 100” is not a correct way to write 100 JPY.
Also, due to the value of Japanese yen, demicals are no longer used for monetary value in most of day-to-day uses. So, it’s better to write ¥0 over ¥0.00.
