Twitter (X) likely had some misalignment of abbreviated numbers between CJK and the European style.

  • European style (e.g. English / SI): K (10³), M (10⁶), G (10⁹), …
  • CJK style (e.g. Japanese): (10⁴), (10⁸), (10¹²), …

The proper way of handling number abbreviations is to provide different number grouping per locale, which Twitter used to handle properly. In this situation, the logic might have reused the proper number abbreviation levels for Japanese, while kept using the European groupings to format the number, causing it to appearn 10 times larger that the actual values.
